Tulsa Blue Dome Crit

Not much time to post, Shelley had some positioning trouble on the last lap, working herself through traffic into 5th. I took a $250 prime w/ 9 to go, then launched my signature 2 to go attack...only to get spit out the back a lap later (also part of my signature). Honestly I was a bit scared, people were imploding everywhere, so I decided if I saw the front again I was going. Todays course is a bit safer. Patience, patience, patience.

Yesterday Shelley was frustrated (board) playing the pack sprinter, so I think she is going to throw down today and really race. It’s a tuff call cause there are not many sprinters here...but in the words of Jens Voight, “If you try, you might loose, but if you don’t try, you will never win”.

I have all sorts of good pics, will post later when I have more internet.

My Fiance the Dominator

Epic weekend, I got over my Panoche vaginitis just enough to take Shelley on a MTB ride and pop the question, we had a surprise party waiting back at the house, perfect day. Thank you to everybody that helped make it happen.

Sobered up for Mt. Hamilton...well Shelley did, hangover or not I know better, and drove the sag wagon. She took 3rd in a stacked field, just the long game validation she needed leading up to Philly, NVGP and the chick Giro di Italia (July).

We both raced Memorial Day Crit on Sunday, Shelley won, making it 3 for 4 this season...and I lost...making it 0 for 4. Check out the glory as seen through the lens of Kurt Harvey.

Thursday we are off to Tulsa Oklahoma for our favorite Tulsa Tough...3 days of BIG money crits...real payouts, not like the races this weekend, where masters got the same and/or better payouts than the pro Women. How many masters traveled from New Zealand for this race? How many masters are trying to make a living racing? 3rd place for the Pro women didn’t even cover the entry fee. Come on guys.

Posted my pics of Memorial Day Crit here. And no, although close at times, I was not OTB....Tim Brennan snapped the few P1/2 pics that I posted. Check back later in the week for Tulsa pics.

Rocktape

Busted out the strobes for a Rocktape shoot. Got some pretty good results, still learning the proper technique. I was using a single 250W strobe shooting into an umbrella. Below is Nikka Van Den Dries displaying mad style w/ her Rocktape, BMC and Proman colors.

Fri Night @ Hellyer

Great turnout for the first Fri night @ Hellyer. I only snapped a few pics, mostly so I could mess w/ my new ghetto remote triggers (i.e. not Pocket Wizzards). Ever since I saw what Farid was doing @ the track and cross races, I have wanted to mess w/ remote flashes. He took one of my favorite pics of me @ Hellyer Districts 2006 w/ a remote set up. I had a few reasonable results, the shadows are a bit much. I think it will look better as a fill flash @ sunset. Below is Daniel Farinha crushing, this kid is swift!

Cats Hill: Smugmug

Shelley got her first Cats Hill! We have both lived within a mile of the course for the last 5 years, and consider this the crown jewel of Nor Cal racing. She took 4th her first Cat’s Hill w/ the 3/4’s in 2005, and after winning the first prime of the Cat 4’s in 2003 (on my cross bike), I was quickly spit out the back. Shelley has since gone on to the pros and taken 6th in 06, and two 2nd place finishes on 07 and 08.

I have 2 great memories of this race. In 2004 we had a stacked Cat 3 Village Peddler Team, my teammates Josh Snead and Mike Telega took 1st and 2nd in a display of total domination and glory. That was a great day, and a great season.

My next memory, is amongst my finest. 2005 was my first year as a Cat 2, and there was a stacked field...pro McGuire, Sierra Nevada, pro Webcor, a young Cozza and Euser...I was scared shitless going into this race, and really had little expectations of finishing...then I did, and it was the greatest thing ever.

This year I was cued up for a reasonable result...then w/ 2 to go I got stuck in a seam in the road and ate shit. I have seen it happen 1,000x, and know the course better than anyone...it was frustrating. Not to mention taking out my friends Eric B and Kramer, and forcing the race to restart. Big time party fowl.

Posted my Cats Hill pics. We are now using Smugmug (note the new tab up above), I think this offers a superior user experience, and makes it easier for me to distribute pic’s w/o watermarks...not to mention make a little coin to fuel the bottomless pit that is this hobby. I need a bit of time to get it dialed in, but will update the site accordingly. Photos will be cheap, $5 for 1mb files (sample). $15 for full resolution files suitable for large high quality prints. Neither will have watermarks.
